Safety & Compliance
For a commercial/public indoor playground, I would specify safety compliance and documentation rather than simply copying the appearance in the image. Relevant standards can include EN 1176, particularly the provisions applicable to enclosed play equipment, together with applicable Indian requirements. BS 8409 also provides guidance for fully enclosed play facilities and refers to the BS EN 1176 series.
A commercial specification should additionally require:
- Impact-absorbing surfaces
- No exposed sharp edges or protruding hardware
- Protection against finger/head/body entrapment
- Padded columns and hard structural members
- Secure anchoring and structural-load calculations
- Fire-performance documentation for foam/upholstery where applicable
- Non-toxic material certificates
- Safety netting with appropriate strength
- Clearly defined age/height/weight limits
- Emergency access/exit provisions
- Regular inspection and maintenance documentation
Independent inspection and risk assessment are also appropriate for indoor soft-play installations. TÜV NORD India, for example, lists design appraisal, risk assessment, inspection and monitoring services for indoor soft-play facilities.
